Brownies, i mean who doesn’t love brownies!!

But they are not often the healthiest thing in the world. And a common question people ask is why brownies need to be healthy, I have asked this question to myself a lot of times until I made these avo brownies. let me first clear the common misconception, no it does not taste like avocados, or something green. it tastes just like any delicious brownies. In terms of texture, it’s more towards cakey side.

But why avocados and not something else?

Avocados = good fat
Butter = not good fat

Also, avocados have the highest percentage of good fat than any vegetable, hence being a direct substitute for butter.

Sorry for the bad lighting condition, had to shoot at night. So let me take you through on how to make these delicious avocado brownies!

  • Wheat flour – 1/2cup (60g)
  • Cocoa powder – 1/2cup (60g)
  • Baking soda 1tsp
  • Avocado(ripe) – 1
  • Eggs -2
  • Coconut oil or vegetable oil or butter – 3tbsp (40ml/grams)
  • Vanilla essence – 1/2tsp
  • Sea salt – 1/2tsp
  • Caster sugar or coconut sugar – 1/2cup (100g)

Let’s start with dry ingredients, you would need wheat flour/all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Sift the ingredients together. Also, I haven’t put sugar in this list here because you add sugar before in the mixture.

cocoa powder, salt+baking soda, wheat flour
Its important to sift the dry ingredients

For the wet ingredients, you would need one medium sized ripe avocado, vegetable oil, eggs caster sugar, vanilla essence. you can also substitute vegetable oil with coconut oil and caster sugar with coconut sugar

avocado, sugar, eggs , vegetable oil and vanilla essence

First start with creaming avocados, and sugar. Cream it well so that there are no chunks of avocado left, this would take about 5-7 minutes. Then add in your eggs one by one followed by vanilla essence and oil. I know the color of this mixture doesn’t look good, but hey avocados are green.

Then add in your dry ingredients in batches and fold in until it gets mixed in properly, scrape the bottom of the bowl to see if there is no unfolded mixture left.

fold in batches

I have used a 9-inch baking tin, although I would suggest you to use something smaller. Because the brownies won’t rise much. Also, add any topping you like from milk chocolates to walnuts etc.

Bake them at about 350°f or 180°c for about 15-18mins. Brownies can easily over bake and when you stick in the toothpick there should be some crumbs left. As brownies cook even after coming out of the oven. once its done take it out and leave it outside for an hour to cool. brownies taste better when its at room tempreature.

Enjoy with a cup of coffee or just like that, and do tell me how they turn out if you make them.
